A group of residents of Nadu Kondaiyampettai near Tiruvanaikovil in the city have urged the district administration to provide basic amenities in their area.
In a petition to the District Collector Jayashree Muralidharan on Monday, the residents complained that an old building of the Adi Dravidar middle school which was in a dilapidated condition, should be demolished to ensure safety for the pupils.
They also wanted a building to be constructed for the office of the Village Administrative Officer.
At present, the VAO was functioning at a private house in Tiruvanaikovil.
Pointing out that the community centre was a felt-need of the residents, the petition also sought construction of the centre.
G. Vasudevan, who led the residents, said that encroachments in the burial ground in the Adi Dravidar colony had been encroached. The encroachments should be cleared and the burial ground restored.
