February 27, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:50 am IST - TIRUCHI:

Former Transport Minister and Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) K.N. Nehru was acquitted in a case pertaining to the assault of a jail warder on the Central Prison campus here in February 2012.

Chief Judicial Magistrate M. Sridhar also acquitted nine others, including DMK Tiruvarur district secretary Poondi Kalaivanan and former Deputy Mayor of Tiruchi M. Anbazhagan.

He acquitted them as the prosecution failed to prove the case beyond reasonable doubt.

The case dates back to February 20, 2012 when Mr. Nehru and his party functionaries went to meet the DMK former MLA Kalyanam, who was lodged in the Central Prison here.

The charge against Mr. Nehru and other accused was that they abused, assaulted and threatened the warder when he stopped former Minister’s vehicle to get official permission to let them in.
