“Crowning Nite-2014” – a cultural extravaganza, was the highlight of the primary school annual day held at Campion Anglo Indian Higher Secondary School in the city on Saturday. The theme of the programme was ‘Save Our Mother Earth’ and students conducted various programmes to create awareness on increasing forest cover, protecting environment, and saving water.
V. R. Ravi of Maruthi Hospital, and Vidhya Ravi, professor, Government Medical College, Villupuram, were the chief guests, and Rev. Bro.Arul, principal, presided over the function.
Winners of pencil sketching, western dance, elocution, solo singing, folk dance, solo instrument, and handwriting competitions conducted throughout the academic year were felicitated along with academic achievers by the chief guests.
A special award – The Jewel of Campion – based on the performance in academics was presented to Ms.Vivian Peter, Ms.Kathelene D’Souza and Ms.Roweena Johnson, and “The Gem of Campion” was presented to Ms. Sylvia Francis, Ms. Cella Petras and Ms. Althea Sherwood.
The students of UKG, numbering more than 200, decorated themselves as trees and flowers and welcomed the gathering through their song. Highlight of the programme was the honouring of Master Akilesh Vishwa of standard V who represented India at the Asian Schools Chess Tournament held in Sri Lanka in September 2013. He won Silver Medals in Rapid and Blitz.
