About 45 members of Islamia Jananayaka Munnani were arrested after they attempted to picket the Central Prison here on Wednesday condemning the Pattukottai police for registering “false” cases against the outfit’s State coordinator Madukkur Maideen and detaining him under the Goondas Act.

They assembled near the Kottapattu refugee camp and came in a procession to picket the Central Prison. So, a strong posse of police personnel were deployed there.

The police arrested the protestors who raised slogans condemning the police action.

The outfit alleged that the Pattukottai police in Thanjavur district had booked three “false” cases including extortion against Mr. Maideen. The stir was led by the outfit’s Tiruchi district president K. Riyaz.
