Gold jewellery weighing a little over 11 sovereigns, silver ornaments, and a motorcycle were stolen from an apartment at Gandhi Nagar at Edamalaipattipudur here a couple of days ago when the inmates were away.
The house owner, R. Arun Kumar (29), the complainant, had gone to Karur along with his family when the offence occurred. The crime came to light after he returned on Friday.
Police sources said culprits entered the house after breaking open the front door lock and stole the valuables. They took away a motorcycle parked on the verandah. E. Pudur police have registered a case.
City police appeal
Meanwhile, the city police have appealed to the residents to inform the police control room on 100 and the police station nearby either in person or over phone whenever they venture out in daytime or at night keeping their houses locked to prevent offences.
