Hotel management institute gets national affiliation

The State Institute of Hotel Management & Catering Technology (SIHMCT), Thuvakkudi, Tiruchi, has secured affiliation to National Council for Hotel Management and Catering Technology (NCHMCT), Noida, an apex body of the Union Ministry of Tourism.

From this academic year, the SIHMCT's B.Sc. Degree in Hospitality and Hotel Administration Programme will be jointly offered by the Indira Gandhi National Open University and the NCHMCT. Students are admitted through All India Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) and subsequent counselling. The Joint Entrance Examination for admission in the academic year 2010 – 2011 has been completed and counselling starts from June 12.

The SIHMCT, according to Principal L.V. Kumar, has been sanctioned 40 seats in the first year B.Sc. programme through JEE 2010 process. From this academic year, the SIHMCT will stop offering the B.Sc degree in Hotel Management in Catering Science, affiliated to Bharathidasan University; diploma course affiliated to Directorate of Technical Education; and short-term courses affiliated to Canada India Institutional Cooperation Project. The move to affiliate courses with NCHMCT is to maintain uniform syllabus and standards in catering education, Mr. Kumar said.

Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation, AIR India, Indian Army and other Government of India organisations provide job opportunities to candidates completing courses affiliated to NCHMCT. Also, the faculties get opportunities for training both in India and abroad. Study materials are constantly upgraded and evaluated by International Labour Organisation, United Nations World Tourism Organisation.

The Institute also offers certificate course in Hotel & Catering Management and Craftmanship in Food & Beverage Service with the entry qualification of a pass in SSLC. Duration of the courses are 6 months with the intake of 40 seats each.

It offers a diploma in Craftmanship in Food Production designed with One Year at the Institute and six month training in a Hotel for 10{+t}{+h} Passed students and for Higher secondary passed students. Other programmes of one and a half year duration are Diploma in Front Office Operation, Diploma in Food and Beverage Service, Diploma in Bakery and Confectionery and Diploma in food Production.

The applications can be obtained upon payment of Rs. 400 with 50 per cent concession for SC / ST candidates. The last date for submission of filled in application is June 25. For details on course fee, dial 0431 – 2500660.
