Planting of saplings and processions mark the event in districts

The first death anniversary of the former President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam was observed at various schools, colleges and other institutions across the central region on Wednesday. Various service organisations also organised programmes to mark the event.

In Pudukottai, students of Al-Munvara Islamic CBSE School, in coordination with VidhaiKalam, a service organisation, planted saplings on the school campus.

Munavara Begum, Principal, was among those who offered tributes.

At the Team Speciality Hospital, a group of medical and para-medical personnel offered tributes to the flex banner of Kalam. Salim, Managing Director, presided over the programme.

In Karaikal, students of Universal Academy in T.R. Pattinam took out a procession and marched through the thoroughfares as a mark of respect to the former President.

They presented a memorandum to the Collector P. Parthiban pleading for construction of a manimandapam at Karaikal as a fitting tribute to him.

In Tiruchi, a number of students from seven schools offered floral tributes on the occasion at the Traffic Park at the Collector’s Office here organised jointly by Exnora International and Junior Chamber of India.

T. Senthilkumar, president of Youth Exnora International and R.P. Murali, Treasurer of Junior Chamber of India and G. Rajasekaran, Tiruchi branch of Indian Red Cross participated.

Students of RVS College of Arts and Science near Tiruchi planted saplings on the campus. Vasanth, Director, presided over the programme.
