Good governance and the need to rid the State of corruption would be the main poll plank of the Bharatiya Janata Party in the 2016 Assembly election, said its national general secretary P.Muralidhar Rao here on Wednesday.
“Whichever party has been in power, Tamil Nadu has witnessed misgovernance coupled with generic corruption over the past several years. The BJP will take up these as central issues (in the forthcoming elections),” he said speaking to reporters here after attending a regional meeting of party office bearers in-charge of elections from 55 Assembly constituencies.
The BJP, he said, was preparing in all earnest for the elections in terms of cadre mobilisation, organising outreach programmes and induction of new members. “We are looking for a big expansion by bringing in new faces and people who want to work for clean politics and probity in public life. We will also organise programmes to expose bad governance and the crisis in areas such as agriculture, power generation and small industries,” he said.
Mr. Rao said the National Democratic Alliance would contest all the 234 seats in the State. Electoral strategy and other issues would be decided by the NDA partners, he said parrying queries on the Pattali Makkal Katchi announcing Anbumani Ramadoss as the Chief Ministerial candidate. Mr. Rao added that new forces would join the alliance to make for a grand social coalition.
