Maintaining that the disqualification of 18 AIADMK MLAs was unwarranted, MGR Amma Deepa Peravai general secretary J. Deepa said that Governor Ch. Vidyasagar Rao should uphold democratic norms by ordering Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami to prove his majority.

Speaking to reporters here on Wednesday, she said that it was the prime duty of the Governor to uphold democracy. But, he had failed in his duty. The disqualification of MLAs had only added to the confusion in the current situation. Instead, the State government should have opted to prove its majority on the floor of the Assembly. The government was losing the confidence of the people.

She blamed V.K.Sasikala’s family for the “utter confusion” in the AIADMK and the government. T.T.V. Dhinakaran had joined hands with the DMK to destroy the party founded by MGR and cemented by Jayalalithaa for vested interests. The extended family of Ms.Sasikala, which was thrown out by Ms. Jayalalithaa, had no right to claim the ownership of AIADMK. They were working for the DMK, she charged.

No true worker of AIADMK would extend support to Mr.Dhinakaran. He was trying to cheat the public by mobilising DMK workers to his meetings, she claimed.

Ms. Deepa criticised the State government for failing to get exemption from NEET. The government was dancing to the whims and fancies of the BJP government. The State should not give up its identity and rights. As a tribute to Ms. Jayalalithaa, the Centre should have exempted the State from the ambit of NEET.

Visits Anitha’s home

She visited the house of MBBS aspirant S. Anitha, who committed suicide after she failed to secure an MBBS seat recently, at Kuzhumur near Senthurai in Ariyalur district.

Besides offering floral tribute to the portrait of Anitha, Ms. Deepa met Shanmugam, father of Anitha, and her brothers and offered condolences to them.
