Five killed in road accident

Five persons including the driver of a car were killed and seven other occupants injured when the vehicle hit against a bus, belonging to the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation, at Narthamalai near here on Sunday night.

The incident happened when the members of a family from Tiruchi were returning from Pudukottai after visiting the tourism site in Sithannavasal and the bus was proceeding from Tiruchi to Pudukottai, police said.

The dead were identified as Jeeva (41), A. Sanjitha (10), Kiruba (15) and Raju (25), driver of the car.

The name of the fifth victim, a woman, was not known immediately.

The injured were admitted to the Government Headquarters Hospital in Pudukottai. Later, they were shifted to Annal Gandhi Memorial Hospital in Tiruchi.

The Keeranur police have registered a case and are investigating.
