Teachers of Industrial Training Institutes and arts and science colleges could gain precious insights into initiating their students into entrepreneurship and self-employment with a structured approach after two weeks of training provided by Entrepreneurship Development Institute, Chennai, at the St. Joseph’s College.
The teachers learnt from experts how Entrepreneurship Development Cells could act as catalysts in motivating students to take to entrepreneurship during the programme supported by Department of Science and Technology, New Delhi, and Tamil Nadu Skill Development Mission, Chennai. Field trips and interaction with successful entrepreneurs enthused them.
R. Balakrishnan, Additional Chief Secretary and Director, EDI, handed over certificates to the participants on Friday in the presence of the college principal Rev. Fr. A. Albert Muthumalai, Secretary Rev. Fr. John Bosco, programme coordinator Alexander Pravin, and Deputy Director of EDI Sai Prasad.
In his valedictory address, Mr. Balakrishnan explained how innovation-driven entrepreneurship will bring about useful change in family and society. The EDI will conduct more such programmes in association with the college to make entrepreneurship a movement for nation-building, he added.
Such a programme was a vital need in the context of the observation by NAAC (National Assessment and Accreditation Council) that only 10 per cent of the graduates are employable, Fr. Albert Muthumalai said. In the changing world, a transformation could be brought about in the society by entrepreneurs, Fr. John Bosco said, advising teachers to equip students with the right skills to adapt themselves to the requirements of entrepreneurship.
