Farmers have complained against the unannounced power cuts which have destabilised agricultural operations in Karur district. The duration of load shedding has been lengthened, which is more than announced in schedule, they alleged at the grievances day meet here on Wednesday.
Deputy secretary of the Cauvery Delta Farmers' Welfare Association, Kavandampatti, R. Subramanian said the privilege enjoyed by the Cauvery delta farmers on power was being subverted by unannounced power cuts. He urged the district administration to take up with the State government the plight of the farmers.
Farmers also wanted that the district administration and the Department of Agriculture make available a combined paddy harvester at Kulithalai.
A paddy harvester located at Kulithalai would serve Nangavaram, Nachalur, Kavandampatti, Panikkampatti, Kulithalai and Krishnarayapuram areas.
Sanction of pattas, improvement of road links and details of credits being disbursed to agriculture activities were among demands.

Rajaram, progressive farmer Nacahalur Srinivasan, Collector J. Uma Maheswari, Joint Director of Agriculture K. Jagadeesan, Lead District Manager K. Chandrasekaran, and Kulithalai RDO Balasubramanian participated in the meet.
