Strict action will be taken against share auto rickshaw drivers who flout traffic rules, said M. Vijayakumar, District Collector.
Presiding over a meeting of the Road Safety Committee here on Friday, the Collector said special records would be maintained in which the names of share autorickshaw drivers violating traffic rules for more than three times would be registered.
The details of such frequent offenders would be incorporated with the commuters of the Transport Department.
The Collector also said the licences of autorickshaws being operated by the unrecognised institutes would be cancelled immediately.
Mr. Vijayakumar said as many as 67 temporary and permanent encroachments which hindered the flow of traffic in the town had been cleared.
A camera would be fitted on the Tiruchi toll-way for recording the number plates of all the vehicles passing through the National Highway.
The Collector specifically advised the police officials to register cases against the vehicle drivers keeping right on the Tiruchi - Chennai National Highway at the service roads and at Siruvachur.
He advised the Transport Department officials to check the unauthorised hike in the bus fare by private operators.
Mahender Kumar Rathod, Superintendent of Police and S. Pazhanisamy, District Revenue Officer were present on the occasion.
