Entries invited from artisans for awards

The Office of the Development Commissioner (Handicrafts), New Delhi, has invited applications from eminent crafts persons for the national awards 2013.

A maximum of 40 national awards and an equal number of merit certificates would be awarded. The award carries a cash price of Rs. 1 lakh and a copper plaque and the merit certificate a cash prize of Rs. 75,000.

The awards are open to all crafts persons residing in the country. Excellence of craftsmanship, contribution of the individual to the development of crafts in terms of training, design innovation, and revival of languishing crafts would be the main selection criteria.

Applications along with the entries are to be submitted by the crafts persons either to the Chairman and Managing Director, Tamil Nadu Handicrafts Development Corporation, 759,Anna Salai, Chennai 600002 or the Deputy Director (H), Handicrafts Marketing and Service Extension Centre, Office of the Development Commissioner (Handicrafts), No.184, Chinnakadai Street, Salem 636001. Crafts persons who are interested in applying should first inform the Handicrafts Marketing and Service Extension Centre, Office of DC (Handicrafts), 184, Chinnakadai Street, Salem 636001 about the entry so that the office can issue the requisite certificate which is mandatory. The office should also be informed about the item made by the crafts person for recommendation, an official press release said.
