Eight lakh people have visited the exhibition organised at the Palace grounds in connection with the Millennium celebrations of the Big temple at Thanjavur said Thangam Thennarasu, Minister for School Education here on Sunday.
Curtains came down on the ten day exhibition which exhibited rare icons of the Chola period, paintings and models.
The exhibition began on September 24. Deputy Chief Minister M.K.Stalin inaugurated the exhibition; Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.Karunanidhi spent an hour on September 26 and saw the exhibits.
Nearly a lakh people visited every day.
Mr.Thennarasu appreciated the officials who worked for the success of the exhibition. T.S.Sridhar, Commissioner of Archaeology, P.A.Mani, Commissioner of Art and culture, A.C.Mohandoss, director, tourism, M.S.Shanmugham, Collector, K.A.Senthilvelan, Superintendent of police, V.Kumar, Chief Education officer and others were present.
The Minister gave away shields and certificates to district collector, SP and other officials as a token of appreciation.
