The real end of any education was to build character and help in developing good citizens of tomorrow, said Prof. S. P. Thyagarajan, former Vice-Chancellor, University of Madras and Professor of Eminence & Dean (Research), Sri Ramachandra University, Chennai. The purpose of education was to draw out best of the student by stimulating the spiritual, intellectual and physical abilities of oneself, Mr. Thyagarajan said delivering the presidential address at the State-level 19th convocation of Dakshina Bharat Hindi Prachar Sabha (Tamil Nadu), Tiruchi here.
Honouring the State-level toppers on the occasion, Prof. Thyagarajan observed that a country’s educational system – school education or higher education – should be able to inculcate and nurture multi-dimensional value system. Praising the Dakshina Bharat Hindi Prachar Sabha for its service to the nation, Prof. Thyagarajan said institutions like it had a rich tradition of imparting value based education and in shaping good citizens.
Students who had successfully completed ‘Praveen’ course were awarded certificates during the convocation. A. P. C.V. Chockalingam, president, Dakshina Bharat Hindi Prachar Sabha (Tamil Nadu), Tiruchi S. Arunachalam, first vice president, M.G. Guttal, secretary and S. Parthasarathi, chairman, Academic Council, Dakshina Bharat Hindi Prachar Sabha, Chennai took part in the function.
