The Directorate of Vigilance and Anti Corruption (DVAC) has launched a probe into the alleged misappropriation of funds during the conduct of Uzhavar Peruvizha in Tiruchi district by Agriculture Department officials.

The DVAC Tiruchi unit booked a case in the last week of February based on a petition from M. Abdullah of Manapparai.

Police sources said the petitioner had complained of misappropriation of funds and malpractices during the conduct of the Uzhavar Peruvizha organised at various villages in the district from 2010 to 2014 causing loss to the government’s exchequer.

Pursuant to the petition, the DVAC conducted a preliminary enquiry and based on its outcome booked a case against 19 Agriculture Department officials including a former Joint Director (Agriculture) presently serving at Thanjavur.
