“Due process for selection followed”

August 07, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 08:18 am IST - TIRUCHI:

A former temporary faculty member of National Institute of Technology-Tiruchi has alleged nepotism in selection of Ph.D research scholars in 2015, which has been refuted by the institute.

K.M. Karthick, who worked in the Department of Energy and Environment for a year from July 2015, told reporters here on Saturday that some of the students who scored poor marks in the written test and interview held in July 2015 had been selected to pursue Ph.D. He had lodged a complaint with the Chief Vigilance Officer of the NIT-T and other authorities, demanding a probe into the complaint.

Mr. Karthick, who was an alumni of the institute between 2004 and 2006, said it had come to light through information sought by him under the Right to Information Act. He was not given extension by the institute authorities for making public the fraudulent selection process.

A senior official of the institute told The Hindu that all documents related to the selection of Ph.D scholars in 2015 had been duly verified and everything was found in order. Due process for selection was followed, G. Kannabiran, Director (in charge), NIT-T, said.
