Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) founder and opposition leader Vijayakant on Tuesday accused the two main Dravidian parties – DMK and the AIADMK – of having “looted” the State over the years in the name of providing “golden rule”.

Urging the electorate to think before exercising their franchise in the upcoming local body elections, Mr. Vijayakant asked them to give the DMDK a chance.

Seeking support for the DMDK Mayoral candidate M. Chitra and party candidates contesting for the post of councillors in Corporation wards in the city, Mr. Vijayakant said that the local body elections provided a chance to the electorate to usher in change.

Accusing the DMK and the AIADMK of being arrogant, Mr. Vijayakant said that if the voters elected the DMDK it would create fear in the minds of the two Dravidian parties.

Corruption had taken deep roots and could be rooted out “through your vote,” Mr. Vijayakant said. He addressed election meetings in Thennur, Woraiyur and Srirangam areas.
