Lack of sharing of information on immovable properties with ones kith and kin not only creates problems for the legal heirs in maintaining their claim to the property, but also for the judicial officers handling such cases, said K.Uthirapathy, Principal District and Sessions Judge.
Presiding over the free legal awareness camp for unorganised labourers organised by the District Legal Services Authority here on Sunday, he cited several cases in which legal heirs had approached courts pleading for the details of the property of the dead. “Disclose the property details at least to your legal heirs,” he said, explaining the difficulty the judicial officials encounter in resolving such disputes.
He also said the authority aimed at protecting the rights of the underprivileged persons with dignity and honour, and those in need of assistance should have no apprehension in approaching it. “The relief sanctioned is not a favour, but your right to access the protection guaranteed under the Constitution,” he said.
He also appealed to the labourers to go through the guidelines stipulated by the Labour Department for understanding their eligibility and norms for getting assistance, and displayed a pamphlet brought out by the State government for their welfare.
Mr.Uthirapathy distributed assistance to the tune of Rs.19.54 lakh to a total of 1,008 beneficiaries on the occasion.
P.Parthasarathy, Sub-Judge and Secretary of the Adalat, said the assistance included a maximum of Rs.10.70 lakh for 625 differently-abled persons, Rs. 6.14 lakh for 327 construction workers, and Rs.1.70 lakh for 10 legal heirs towards death relief. M.Sridhar, Chief Judicial Magistrate, spoke on the services being rendered by the authority.
