The Director of Agriculture V.Dakshinamoorthy on Saturday inaugurated mechanised paddy seed sowing on about 40 acres in the Andhanallur taluk of the district under the samba special package.
Mr.Dakshinamoorthy inspected the direct sowing process in a few fields and interacted with farmers. Direct sowing helped reduce the requirement of water for irrigation of the crop. He pointed out that the samba special package was being implemented across the State with an allocation of Rs.63 crore.
The State government was implementing various schemes to improve productivity in paddy, millets and pulses. He appealed to the farmers to avail the subsidies extended under the schemes.
Later, he inspected the mat nurseries raised in a field at Angarai village in Lalgudi taluk. He distributed inputs such as zinc sulphate and weedicide under the samba package.
