Declare Rahul as PM candidate, Sonia Gandhi urged

October 08, 2013 01:16 pm | Updated 01:16 pm IST - TIRUCHI:

Tiruchi urban district unit of the Congress has appealed to All India Congress Committee president Sonia Gandhi to declare party vice president Rahul Gandhi as the Prime Ministerial candidate for the 2014 Parliamentary elections.

A resolution to this effect was adopted at the Tiruchi urban district Congress committee meeting held here on Saturday. The meeting was attended by the newly-elected office bearers and booth agents.

The party appealed to the External Affairs Minister to put an end to the problems faced by Tamil Nadu fishermen, while holding talks with Sri Lanka during his visit to the island nation on October 7. It urged the Minister to ensure that the boats seized by Sri Lanka were released.

At a time when Central ministers from Tamil Nadu were getting funds for the State for new schemes, the Chief Minister’s “false charge” against the Centre that the Raghuram Rajan committee report would affect Tamil Nadu, was condemnable, said another resolution.

The party extolled Mr. Rahul Gandhi for raising his voice publicly against the ordinance on convicted law makers and appreciated the Centre for withdrawing it.
