‘Krishna’, a dance-drama, by national award-winning actress and Bharatanatyam exponent Shobana and an ensemble of dancers from her Chennai-based Kalarpana dance academy enthralled culture buffs in the city on Sunday.

The production, staged at Thevar Hall here, brought to life a sequence of stories from sources and used a varied repertoire of dance styles from the classical to Bollywood, with a pre-recorded soundtrack of peppy songs created by Oscar-winner Resul Pookkutty.

The dance, focusing on the earthly predicament of Krishna, humanised the epic figure.

Shobana, playing the lead role, essayed many ways in which the divine and the worldly play out in life.

Expertly planned lighting effects enhanced the catchy songs and multimedia elements that brought out various aspects of the epic narration on the minimalist stage.

The dialogues featured a voiceover cast of film personalities.
