Members of Communist Party of India (Marxist) organised a demonstration in front of the Vedarnayam taluk office on Saturday urging the government to transfer police constable N.Arumugam’s suicide case to Crime Branch CID. The constable had allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from a tree on the Kariyapattinam police station premises on Monday.

According to sources, Annalakshmi, wife of the dead constable, gave a petition to the RDO, A.Siva Priya, suspecting a foul play in his death and refused to receive his body.

Protest

His body has been kept in the Tiruvarur Medical College Hospital mortuary.

In the meantime, CPI (M) workers held demonstration in front of the Vedarnayam taluk office demanding the government to provide Rs. 25 lakh relief to the family members of the dead policeman and transfer the case to the CB-CID to nab the real culprits. If the government failed to fulfil their demands, they would organise a district-wide agitation.

The Vedarnayam union secretary of the CPI (M), M.A.Senguttuvan, led the demonstration.
