August 01, 2015 12:00 am | Updated March 29, 2016 12:27 pm IST - TIRUCHI:

The Tiruchirapalli City Corporation Council on Friday paid homage to the former President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam with the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam making a plea for naming the Tiruchi Airport after him.

A meeting of the corporation council, scheduled for the day, was adjourned sine die without transacting any business as a mark of respect to Abdul Kalam.

Earlier, councillors, cutting across party lines, paid glowing tributes to Kalam.

T. Muthuselvam, DMK floor leader, while eulogising Kalam, urged the corporation to take steps to have the Tiruchi Airport named after him.

Mayor A. Jaya and Deputy Mayor J. Srinivasan, both AIADMK, were among those who paid tributes to the former President.
