November 28, 2011 12:52 pm | Updated 12:52 pm IST - TIRUCHI:

The Federation of Consumer and Service Organisations has resolved to stage a demonstration against the proposed move to increase the power tariff. A resolution was adopted at the meeting of the central committee of the federation held here recently.

The resolution called upon the government to streamline power generation and distribution agencies and ensure corruption-free administration. Modern technology should be adopted to reduce transmission and distribution losses. Measures should also be put in place to stop misuse of free power. Referring to the hike in the price of milk and bus fares, the federation said it was the duty of the government to ensure that people were not burdened by the price rise. The government should also review the functioning of State Transport Corporations and the Aavin to improve efficiency. M.Sekaran, president, and other office bearers participated.
