Construction of three flyovers in the city is to begin next week and is expected to be completed in one-and-half years.
To ease traffic congestion on city roads, the State government had announced construction of two-tier flyover bridge on Five Roads Junction as work is in progress in all the arterial roads, including Junction Main Road, Omalur Main Road, Sarada College Road, Five Road Junction and near New Bus Stand.
Presently, vehicles moving on Bengaluru – Madurai National Highways were disrupted as vehicles from Kondalampatti, Suramangalam Main Road and Junction Main Road enter the city at three points, one at Thiruvakavundanur Bypass, AVR Roundtana and at Kurangu Chavadi Junction.
These vehicles disrupt the flow of vehicles on the highway causing frequent traffic congestion.
Hence, the State government announced the construction of flyovers at Thiruvakavundanur Bypass at Rs. 26.77 core, AVR Roundtana and Kurangu Chavadi Junctions at a total cost of Rs. 111.40 crore.
All these flyovers were to be constructed along the Bengaluru – Madurai National Highways so that vehicles on the NH do not get disturbed.
Officials said that preliminary works like extending and laying the service road were about to be completed and flyover work would begin next week.
They said that works are proposed to be completed in two years, but they are confident of completing in one-and-half-years.
