Constable on duty commits suicide

A grade-I police constable committed suicide by consuming pesticide while on duty at Srirangam on Thursday.

The 42-year-old constable K. Venkatraman resorted to the extreme step while on duty at Beat No. 46 in the afternoon at Amma Mandapam adjoining the Cauvery river.

Police sources said public who noticed Mr. Venkatraman vomit immediately rushed him to the Srirangam Government Hospital. But he died sometime later. Police said the constable ended his life due to family problem.

He is survived by wife Anitha and a son studying fifth standard.

He was posted in the Law and Order wing at Srirangam police station in January 2015.

The body was kept at the mortuary in Srirangam Government Hospital. The Srirangam police are investigating.
