An altercation between Tourism Minister Vellamandi N.Natarajan and a group of supporters of T.T.V.Dhinakaran caused some tense moments in Tiruchi on Friday evening.

The incident took place while Mr.Natarajan was returning after attending the inauguration of flood lights and telescope at the Rockfort Thayumanaswamy Temple in the city when Rajaraja Cholan, a former Tamil Maanila Congress member who joined the AIADMK some months back, presented a petition to the Minister.

Mr.Rajaraja Cholan, in his petition, wanted Mr.Natarajan to step down as Minister and urban district secretary. A quarrel ensued between the two and a group of persons raised slogans against the Minister and in praise of Mr. Dhinakaran.

Supporters of the two groups pushed each other around and as the situation threatened to go out of hand, the police intervened to separate them and bring the situation under control.
