A joint study will be conducted by the National Highways Authority of India, Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation, and the police department, at Narthamalai on the Tiruchi-Pudukottai National Highway to avert accidents.

A decision to this effect was taken at a meeting convened by Collector S. Ganesh here on Tuesday following road accidents becoming a regular feature at Narthamalai. On Sunday last, four persons were killed on the spot when the car by which they were travelling to Tiruchi collided head on with a bus. Mr. Ganesh said that a study should be conducted jointly by the NHAI and the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation in coordination with the police personnel. The Collector advised them to explore the possibility of widening the National Highway on either side so that more space would be available for vehicles crossing the village.

S. Marimuthu, District Revenue Officer, M. Muthudaiyan, Project Director, NHAI, and T. Gnanavelan, Inspector of Police, and Balasubramanian, Assistant Manager, Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation, participated in the meeting.
