District Collector M. Chandrasekaran has appealed to the district officials to be equipped to meet any eventuality during the North East Monsoon season which is about to begin in the district.

At a meeting of officials to discuss about steps to be taken to meet the monsoon days here on Monday, the Collector directed Public Works Department engineers to see that there was no stagnation of water in rivers. He asked them to keep gunnies, bamboo poles and casuarina sticks ready.

He said that school buildings should be kept ready to use as shelters in case of any emergency. Defects in school buildings should be repaired. Power supply should be ensured.

He asked the revenue department officials to measure rainfall using rain gauge in each taluk and send the details to the District Collectorate by 8 a.m. everyday. Drugs for water borne diseases like cholera should be kept ready in Primary Health Centres. He also asked the health department officials to keep mobile health units ready.
