Six officials honoured for providing jobs to differently abled

A total of 46 police personnel were honoured with Chief Minister's Police Medal in recognition of their services at the Republic Day celebration here on Thursday.

Collector Jayashree Muralidaran, who presented the medals, also gave away commendation certificates and small savings ‘patra' to 12 government officials in recognition of their services.

Six officials who were responsible for providing employment opportunities to differently abled persons were honoured with a certificate.

The officials were R.Shyamala, district differently abled welfare officer, R.Ravichandran, junior rehabilitation officer, N.Muralidharan, Regional Deputy Director of Employment, A.Kalaichelvan, Junior Employment Officer, and P.Selvam, audiologist cum speech therapist, and V.Chellapandian, leather technician.

V.Veerapandian, deputy director of health services, and R.Govindarajulu, former deputy commissioner of excise, were honoured with a medal and certificate for mobilising maximum donation for Flag Day.

The Tamil Nadu Sports Development Authority had sanctioned a cash award of Rs.3,000 and a medal to five top sportspersons in the district. The Collector gave away the awards to S. Nithyanand (swimming); M.Jayaraman and M.Monisha Sivakami (athletics); M.G.Santhoshkumar (taekwondo); R.Bhuvaneswari (chess); and K.Kausalya (cycling).

Ms.Muralidharan honoured freedom fighters and gave away loans and assistance to 237 persons totalling Rs.46.72 lakh. The Mahalir Thittam had sanctioned revolving fund of Rs.1lakh each to four self help groups.

Earlier, the Collector hoisted the National Flag and, accompanied by Jayapandian, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Law and Order, inspected the guard of honour presented by Armed Reserve personnel, Home Guards, Scouts and Guides and others. A. Amalraj, DIG of Police, Central Region and Shailesh Kumar Yadav, Commissioner of Police, were present.

A cultural programme was held in which students from various schools and colleges participated.
