In a related incident, parents of students of AJC Public School here gheraoed the vehicle of the Chief Education Officer today for closing down the school.

The school was one of the 10 schools that were shut down in the district following inspections that revealed their functioning without proper approval.

According to parents, the closure of the school at this critical juncture would affect the education of their wards.

Parents also contended that it was the responsibility of the Chief Education Officer to have ensured that the school was approved before the commencement of the academic year. For them, with just four months to go, their wards should be allowed to complete the current academic year.

However, the official contention is that the school had deliberately assumed the CBSE syllabus to wriggle out of official scrutiny here as they were under the jurisdiction of the officials in Thanjavur.

Further, officials state that when education itself was not approved, how would it provide legitimacy to the demand for completion of the current year. According to the district administration officials, a separate Assistant Education Officer has been appointed to facilitate admission of students in other schools as a special case.

Later, talks with the Revenue Divisional Officer had concluded that the school would remain closed for the next three days, by which time the Correspondent should produce the required documents. However, the status of the school was hazy and it remains to be seen, what course the issue would take.
