Cleaniness drive in Pudukulam

May 09, 2017 12:40 am | Updated 12:40 am IST - PUDUKOTTAI:

Members of Makkal Padhai and Sivakami Blood Donors Association, both voluntary organisations, carried out a cleaniness drive at Pudukulam in the town on Sunday.

The volunteers collected empty bottles, plastic cups and garbage from the sprawling tank in the town and deposited them at the compost yard.

S. Moorthy, organiser of Makkal Padhai, said the volunteers had adopted Pudhukulam was in need of adequate maintenance.

Although the municipality had initiated measures for its renovation, absence of adequate security personnel in the area facilitated anti-social elements to a great extent. The collection of a large volume of empty beer bottles testified to this fact, he said.

‘Clean supply channels’

U. Sagayam, Vice Chairman, Science City, visited Pudukulam and interacted with volunteers engaged in the drive.

Mr Sagayam advised the youth to take up simultaneous cleaning of the supply channels as it was all the more important for ensuring uninterrupted supply of storm water into the Pudukulam, which is spread over three municipal wards of the town.
