Materialising ‘Tiruchi Vision 2020' by igniting young minds. This was the purpose behind CII Tiruchi Zone's ‘Tiruchi My Dream City' initiative involving school students recently, in association with the Department of Paediatrics, KMC Speciality Hospital.
The initiative constituted conduct of painting competition, elocution and quiz for students at all levels: Painting for Juniors (classes I to IV) and Seniors (V to VII), and elocution was for classes VIII to X. The quiz was exclusively about Tiruchi for students of classes XI and XII.
The initiative was aligned to the CII Tiruchi Zone's ‘City Connect' concept of knowing the younger generation's 2020 vision for Tiruchi.
The city has to be developed well, in a safe and environment-friendly way, S.Chandrakumar, Zone Chairman, said, adding that the CII's initiative will take off from the Tiruchi 2020 visualisations of the younger generation.
About 300 students from over 30 schools took part in the painting competition held for Juniors (I to IV) and Seniors (V to VII).
The judges for elocution for students of classes VIII to X constituted Jayanthi, Company Secretary, KMC Speciality Hospital, and Phelominal from MAM CBSE School. The quiz exclusively about Tiruchi for students of XI and XII classes was conducted by R. Panchanadhan, Director, Talent consultancy for Human Resource Development, Tiruchi.
Winners were given cash awards by the chief guest Rev. Bro.S.Dhanraj, Principal, Montfort School, Kattur.
Reiterating that the city's future was in the hands of the children, Bro. Dhanraj said every student must carry forward the spirit and spread awareness among their peers for realising the dream for Tiruchi@2020. T Senthil Kumar, Medical Director, KMC Hospital, and D Senguttuvan, Head, Department of Paediatrics, KMC Speciality Hospital, also addressed the students at the valedictory session, emphasising on the need to make Tiruchi a developed green city, and not another concrete jungle.
The CII sees Tiruchi, the fourth largest city in the State with its attributes of rich cultural and architectural heritage, and a fine blend of tradition and modernity as the country's energy capital and a thriving commercial centre of Tamil Nadu.
Since Tiruchi is centrally located with good connectivity, the CII Zone intends that progress owing to the other advantages in the forms of large land bank availability, talented work force, lesser cost of living, and existence of educational institutions of national and international repute must be optimally achieved.

Painting Junior: S. R. Sri Madesh of Rajaji Vidhyalaya, S. Soundarya of Rajaji Vidhyalaya, and A. Yuva Buvani of Rajaji Vidhyalaya and B. Jenifer of Montfort School.
Elocution: P. Aparna of RSK Higher Secondary School, Shruthi Priya of Montfort School, and Padmini Celestina of Montfort School.
Quiz: J. Priscilla Mary and J. Sowmiya of St. Joseph's Anglo Indian School; S. Babu and Ashwin S. Warrier of RSK Higher Secondary School; and R. Vaishalini and R. Ragavi of Girls' Higher Secondary School, Srirangam.
