Issues connected with child protection, their rights and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012, were sensitised to a group of city police personnel during a day-long workshop here on Thursday.
The workshop was organised by the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) and the city police to those police personnel who were nominated as Child Welfare Officers and those attached with the Anti Human Trafficking Unit.
The functioning of the CWC, the rights of children, Juvenile Justice Act and various sections of the POCSO Act were put forth to the participants during the session.
Provisions of the Child Marriage Prohibition Act, child trafficking and the ways it was being carried out for exploitation of the minors were also highlighted to the participants.
The role of CWC, Juvenile Justice Board, and effective implementation of the J.J.Act and POCSO Act besides the need to increase the conviction rate in respect of cases booked under the POCSCO Act were also stressed on the occasion.
Resource persons from the CWC, including its chairman S. Indira Gandhi and the District Child Protection Officer P. Saravana Kumar, spoke.
Certain case studies relating to child rehabilitation were also highlighted during the workshop by the resource persons.
