Heavy traffic jam was witnessed for a few hours on Friday evening on the Dindigul – Tiruchi national highway near Manapparai, when the supporters of a candidate who contested for the post of the president of Thoppampatti village panchayat, organised a road blockade protesting the announcement of declaring the rival candidate as winner.

According to sources, the officials were said to have declared Rajaram as president by a thin margin. But the supporters of Pothum Ponnu refused to accept the verdict and blocked traffic.

The initial negotiations by the police did not convince the supporters of Pothum Ponnu. Later Tholkappian, Deputy SP, assured the agitating villagers that their representatives could meet the higher officials in this regard, following which they withdrew the agitation.
