July 19, 2013 12:07 pm | Updated 12:07 pm IST - KARUR:

Farmers and members belonging to the Groundwater Protection and Pollution Affected Farmers’ Forum whose fields are along the banks of the Amaravathy on Karur outskirts have complained that miscreants are dumping and draining untreated industrial effluents in Irattai Vaikkal over the past few days causing ecological degradation in the channel that drains into Amaravathy ultimately.

A few dyeing units at Chinnandankoil area are said to be releasing effluents into Irattai Vaikkal polluting groundwater and land , the farmers said. They have submitted a memorandum to District Collector Ms. S. Jayandhi seeking to end the menace.
