The first consignment of boiler components for the 6 x 150 MW boilers being supplied by Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) for the 900 MW Captive Power Plant for Hindalco Industries Limited at Lapanga in the Sambalpur district of Orissa, was flagged off from BHEL’s High Pressure Boiler Plant at Tiruchi on Friday.
The delivery was being made six months ahead of schedule, according to a BHEL Press release.
At a function held at the Boiler Plant, A.V.Krishnan, Executive Director, BHEL, Tiruchi Complex, handed over the despatch documents to Rakesh Gupta, Senior Vice President, Hindalco-Aditya Alumina and Aluminium Project, and flagged off the consignment comprising around 40 tonnes of foundation bolts required for commencement of boiler erection work at site.
BHEL had secured the prestigious order against stiff competition from domestic and international companies including Chinese majors, close on the heels of a similar order for a 6 x 150 MW Captive Power Plant for Hindalco’s Mahan Aluminium Project in Singrauli district of Madhya Pradesh. The orders, cumulatively valued at over Rs.4,000 crores, were the largest secured by BHEL in its industrial business segment.
The captive power plants are being set up as part of Hindalco’s greenfield expansion projects which include the setting up of 360,000 TPA (tons per annum) smelter plants at Lapanga and Singrauli, the release added.
