BHEL donates sewing machines to women

As part of its CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) initiative to create self-employment opportunities for economically backward sections of the local community, the Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited, Tiruchi, on Saturday donated 52 new sewing machines worth four lakh rupees to women belonging to five villages in the neighbourhood.

At a function organised on the premises of WWA (Women's Welfare Association) in Kailasapuram Township, the Association Patron Rajam Krishnan, and P. Nainar, General Manager - Human Resources, handed over the sewing machines to the beneficiaries drawn from Thuvakudy, Vazhavandankottai, Navalpet, Krishnasamuthiram and Koothaipar villages, according to a BHEL press release.

These women underwent tailoring training at WWA for the last two months. At a similar function held in April this year, BHEL, Tiruchi, donated 50 new sewing machines to needy women from nearby villages, the release said.
