Beneficiaries of the Kalaignar Health Insurance Scheme for Life Saving Treatments are in for a pleasant surprise – a personal get-well message from the Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi.
Wishing a speedy recovery to the beneficiaries, the Chief Minister also provides a brief overview of the scheme. “I hear that you are one of the beneficiaries under the scheme. The government is spending up to Rs.1 lakh to enable you to undergo a life-saving treatment. I wish you a speedy recovery and happy togetherness with your family after undergoing treatment for your disease without any apprehension and worry,” reads the message addressed by name to individual beneficiaries.
The scheme, launched on July 23, would benefit one crore families and is being implemented at a cost of Rs. 517 crore a year. It provides for treatment of 51 diseases and has been welcomed and appreciated by the people of Tamil Nadu. Thousands have benefited under the scheme and many more have applied, the missive reads.
Transport Minister K.N. Nehru initiated the process of handing over the Chief Minister’s message to 140 beneficiaries who have already undergone treatment in the Tiruchi district on Thursday. Officials said the message would be delivered to all beneficiaries of the scheme.
Mr. Nehru said, so far, 906 persons have undergone treatment under the scheme and about 4.94 lakh families have been photographed for the issue of smart cards in Tiruchi district so far. T. Soundiah, Collector, A. Kaliyamurthy, Superintendent of Police, and T.T. Balsamy, Corporation Commissioner, were present.
