The Union government's Bachat Lamp Yojana (BLY), a scheme to promote energy efficient lighting in the country, is expected to be implemented in Tiruchi circle by January, K. Venkatraman, the Superintending Engineer, Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation (TANGEDCO), Tiruchi Metro Circle, said on Tuesday.
Details regarding the number of consumers in Tiruchi Circle have already been forwarded to the TANGEDCO's head office for implementation of scheme, Mr. Venkatraman told reporters after inaugurating the Energy Conservation Week in the city. The number of consumers comprising all categories in Tiruchi Circle was around 8 lakh.
Stating that the BLY had already been implemented in Cuddalore, Mr. Venkatraman said Compact Fluorescent Lamps (CFLs) with a three year warranty, would be supplied to the consumers to replace incandescent bulbs under this scheme . Consumers would have to pay Rs. 15 for each CFL and handover the incandescent bulb under the scheme which would be implemented in Corporation, Town Panchayats and Municipalities.
As part of the energy conservation initiative, CFLs had been provided to TANGEDCO offices across the Tiruchi circle, he said. Awareness meetings on the importance and ways of saving energy would be organised in Tiruchi metro circle, Tiruchi East, Srirangam, Manapparai, Lalgudi, Musiri and Thuraiyur Divisions during the Energy Conservation Week celebrations that concludes on December 20.
Campaign vehicles to percolate the message would be operated in the respective divisions besides distribution of pamphlets to the public. Senior officials of the TANGEDCO were present on the occasion.
