The two-day State senior athletics championship, which concluded at the Anna Stadium here on Sunday, was replete with action.
The 85th edition of the meet, which featured 21 events each for men and women, was organised by Tiruchi District Athletics Association (TDAA). It attracted over 1,000 athletes from different parts of the State.
“It was a well-contested meet, with the participants giving their best in pursuit of glory,” said N. Annavi, former international high jumper and TDAA secretary.
St. Joseph's Sports Academy, Chennai, clinched the overall championship. Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu (SDAT) and Tiruchi district claimed the second and third places respectively. T. Balamurugan of Southern Railway and M. Gomathi of St. Joseph's Sports Academy bagged the best athlete award in the men's and women's sections respectively.
N.R. Sivapathi, Minister for School Education, gave away prizes in the presence of Collector Jayashree Muralidharan; R. Manoharan, MLA; M. Ramasubramani, DIG of Police, Ramanathapuram, and president TDAA; and K. Vaithianathan, VC, Tamil Nadu Physical Education and Sports University.
