Action has been ordered on 60 of the 71 petitions that were taken up for consideration at a sitting of the Assembly Petitions Committee in Tiruchi on Thursday, according to its chairman P. Mohan.
A majority of the petitions that were resolved at the sitting related to providing of drainages, clearance of silt in canals, and Anganwadi centres, he said after the meeting. The committee had received 372 petitions from the district and 71 were taken up for review at the sitting with the petitioners and officials present.
He also disclosed that the committee has held sittings in 12 districts already and submitted its reports to the Assembly.
Mr.Mohan, who declined to field questions at the press conference called after the meeting, claimed that schemes introduced by Chief Minister Jayalalithaa were implemented well in the district. The State government has allotted Rs.230.81 crore over the past 15 months for various schemes, including the provision of free gold for ‘thali’, supply of mixers, grinders and fans, milch animals, laptops and bi-cycles to students, and green house project in the district, he said.
N.R. Kittusamy, K. Ponnusamy, A. Ramasamy, P. Vijayalakshmi Palanisamy and T.Haridas, members of the committee, R. Manoharan, T.P. Poonatchi and T. Indira Gandhi, MLAs, Jayashree Muralidharan, Collector, A. Jaya, Mayor, and V.P.Thandapani, Corporation Commissioner, were among those who attended the meeting.
BHEL visit
The Petitions Committee of Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly led by its chairman P. Mohan visited BHEL Tiruchi on Thursday. The committee accompanied by Collector Jayashree Muralidharan interacted with S. Gopinath, executive director, Piping Centre & Power Plant Piping Unit, Thirumayam, and M Palanivel, general manager, human resource. The officials apprised the committee about BHEL’s contribution to the country’s power and infrastructure development, and the employment opportunities generated in the region.
Mr. Mohan was appreciative of BHEL’s Tiruchi unit, the PSU’s largest, for registering a turnover of over Rs.14,600 crore, and maintaining smooth industrial relations. The committee visited BHEL’s various manufacturing facilities and interacted with employees.
