Arrested on graft charge

The Anti-Corruption Bureau of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested five Customs officials and a passenger following a day-long surprise check at the Tiruchi international airport here on Friday. The CBI team seized cash to the tune of Rs.2.94 lakh during the check.

Two Customs Superintendents, Ravikumar and Sivaswamy, and Inspectors, Suresh Kumar, Dinesh Prajapati and Avijit Chakraborthy, and the passenger Nagoor Meeran were arrested.

According to a press release, the passenger had brought two LED television sets but the customs officials had levied duty only for one, after accepting a bribe. Bribe money to the extent of Rs.2.94 lakhs, collected by these officials from various other passengers during the day, was seized.
