Applications invited for contests in music

Rasika Ranjana Sabha has invited applications for its annual contests in Carnatic vocal and instrumental music to be held in June under the sub-Junior (6 years to 10 years), Junior (10 years to 15 years) and Senior (15 years and above) categories.

A quiz on Carnatic music will be the new attraction in this year’s programme.

In the junior category in vocal music, 12 competitions will be held under 12 different composers.

Apart from first, second and third prizes for each competition, the overall winner will be awarded the L.V Memorial Shield.

In the senior vocal category, 35 different competitions will be held.

The prestigious ‘Sangeetha Sri’ award will be bestowed on the winner who participates in 24 competitions, and stands first overall.

Instrumental music competitions will be held for violin, flute, veena and mirudhangam under the categories sub-junior, junior and senior. Application forms for the contests are to be obtained either in person from the Sabha office on W.B. Road, (4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on all days except Sunday) or by emailing rrsabha @gmail.com.

Completed forms (along with age proof certificate for sub-juniors and juniors) should be submitted with fees to the Sabha’s office by May 28. The competitions are not open to previous winners in the same category.

Contestants for the Sangeetha Sri title should come prepared to answer queries by judges on their song presentation.
