Angusam: a film that demystifies RTI Act

Tamil cinema is undergoing a sea of change as more newcomers’ have entered the fray with interesting themes. One such venture is ‘Angusam’, the second film of director Mhanukannan.

Produced by Manusri Films International with Skanda Ashok and Jayati Guha in lead roles, the film is finally set to hit the screens on February 21. It is all set to be released in around 150 theatres in Tamil Nadu, apart from an online release a week after its hits the screens.

“ The film portrays a common man’s fight against corruption, and also aims to explain the Right to Information (RTI) Act 2005. It is something that everyone must be aware of,” said Jayati Guha. She was addressing media persons during a press meet organised in the city on Sunday.

Mhanukannan, who has produced, directed and acted in the film, aims to create awareness in the society about the provisions and importance of the RTI Act. “I chanced upon a news item where a man from Tiruchi had filed an RTI application, but did not get proper response from the government agency. That is when I decide to make a film on that theme,” he said.

“In order to make the film appealing, I have added commercial elements, so that the viewers could find the film interesting ,” he added.
