Union Minister of State for Commerce and Industry Nirmala Sitharaman on Friday called upon the ancillary units of BHEL to diversify and expand their business activities in various areas and supply products without remaining dependent on the strength of the public sector giant.
Speaking at a function organised by the BHEL Small and Medium Industries Association (BHELSIA) and the BJP Industrial Cell here, Ms. Nirmala Sitharaman said the Central government would extend necessary support to the ancillary units as they had elevated their capabilities despite facing stiff hurdles. The support to the units was also in the wake of the Prime Minister’s clarion call of ‘Make in India’.
The Central government had settled 11 out of the 12 demands put forth by the BHELSIA on various issues, she said assuring that the transparency clause demand would also be looked into. She would also strive for fair price and fair trade methodology, the Minister said.
Praising the Tiruchi based ancillary units for their self-confidence, capability and skill development, the Minister said such a comprehensive and cohesive unit could not be found anywhere in the country.
The Central government would explore the possibility of bringing in funds through other means for establishing the common service facility at BHEL, Tiruchi.
Ancillary units should think of expanding their business and stand on their own legs without remaining dependent on the strength of BHEL, she said.
