Stating that the tussle is between the DMK and the AIADMK in the current elections, K. Anbazhagan, DMK general secretary, said there would be no future for alternative forces at least for the next 10 years in the State.
Speaking to The Hindu here, he said he did not foresee any alternative to the Dravidian parties emerging in the near future. It might have a slender chance after 10 years. But it would depend on the expectation and thinking of people.
Asked whether the third force (DMDK-PWF-TMC) would impact the outcome of the election results, Mr. Anbazhagan said it would not be a force to reckon with. The fight was between the DMK and the AIADMK in this election. To his understanding, the DMK party men and sympathisers would never vote for other parties. Similar was the case with the AIADMK workers. The third force was not in the picture at all. It might end up with just 10 to 15 per cent votes.
He said the DMK would win the election with absolute majority. It would garner 50 to 55 per cent votes.
To a question, Mr. Anbazhagan said there would be no need for seeking support of other parties to form the government. There would be no coalition government in the State. He said some of the new parties did not have ideals and principles. They did not have clear ideas and stand on regional, State, and national issues. There was a general tendency among the actors to plunge into politics to cash in on the popularity that they had earned in film industry.
The launch of the AIADMK by M.G. Ramachandran was the root-cause for this. It had given hope that parties could be started and run without policies and ideals. It was not a good sign.
The DMK had never given up its basic principles and ideas. However, it had brought changes and updated every now and then based on the contemporary situation.
