Tiruvarur Collector L. Nirmal Raj disbursed Albendazole tablets to students at a school in Vaduvoor in Tiruvarur district on Wednesday to mark the National Deworming Day.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Nirmal Raj said that it was essential that students were properly protected against communicable diseases and other infections which could upset their academic performances. A lot of children have been affected by anemic, nutrition deficiency and other disorders that need timely treatment.
Mr. Nirmal Raj said that a total of 3,14,350 children in the age group of one to 19 years in the district would be provided albendazole tablets on a single day through government, aided and private schools, anganwadis and health centres.
Officials from the Department of School Education, Integrated Child Development Scheme and Department of Public Health have been deployed for dispensing the tablets. Deputy Director of Health Services Senthil Kumar, Chief Education Officer Parvathi, District Eeducation Officer Cholan and others were present.
Perambalur
The tablets were distributed to a total of 1.48 lakh school pupils across the district on Wednesday. Sampath, Joint Director of Health Services, inaugurated the programme at the Government Higher Secondary School in Ammapalayam. K. Munusamy, Chief Educational Officer, spoke on the significance of the drive.
